Bill Addis MA (Cantab), PhD, MCIOB, Comp. Member IStructE While a university academic for over 15 years, Bill Addis lectured on
building engineering design and construction, and the history of building materials, structures and building engineering to both engineers and architects. He has written widely on the history of construction and building, especially the history of structural engineering design. In 1997 he helped devise and curate a major exhibition at the Pompidou Centre on The Art of the Engineer celebrating some 200 years of construction and engineering history. He now works as a consulting engineer with Buro Happold, advising engineers, architects and clients on how best to reduce the environmental impact of construction.

Ranjit Bassi BSc, MSc, PhD, DIC Ranjit Bassi joined the Building Research Establishment in 1990 after completing his PhD at Imperial College. He has given seminars on the selection of coatings, concrete repair and the implications of European Standards to the British Cement Association training courses, the Oil Color and Chemistry Association, the International Concrete Repair Association and BRE external seminars. He was presented with the Owen Nutt award by the Federation of Epoxy Resin Formulators and Applicators for the best paper on concrete research in 1996.

John Boxall BSc (Hons), FTSC, MICorr, MIMF
Following a period in industry, John Boxall joined the Building Research Establishment in 1973, eventually becoming a Projects Manager responsible for contracts on surface coatings for construction substrates. He is currently a Director of the Paint Advisory Bureau, an independent technical consultancy serving the needs of clients in the coating industry and its customer base.
